Nakshatra Calculator
Find your birth star, pada, ruling planet, and shakti — computed from real Moon ephemeris.
How this works
Your nakshatra — sometimes called your janma nakshatra or "birth star" — is the one of 27 lunar constellations the Moon was passing through at the exact moment you were born. Where your Sun sign describes broad personality in Western astrology, your nakshatra is Vedic astrology's more precise, moon-based signature: it's tied to your emotional nature, instincts, and the way you process the world, since the Moon moves roughly 13 degrees a day and changes nakshatra every 1-1.5 days.
Each of the 27 nakshatras spans 13°20' of the zodiac and carries its own symbol, presiding deity, and "shakti" — a specific power or gift classical texts associate with that stretch of sky. Nakshatras are also grouped into three gunas (Deva, Manushya, Rakshasa) describing temperament, and each is ruled by one of the nine Vimshottari dasha lords, which is what ties your birth star directly into your life-chapter timeline.
Because the Moon moves quickly, nakshatra calculations are one of the more time-sensitive readings in Vedic astrology — a birth near a nakshatra boundary can land in a different star (and pada) depending on the precise minute. This calculator uses the same Swiss-Ephemeris-class astronomy as TaraQi's full birth chart, so if you don't know your exact birth time, we'll compute a best estimate and flag when the result might shift.
Your nakshatra is just one layer. Your full TaraQi chart adds your Moon's house placement, your Vimshottari dasha timeline (each nakshatra maps to a starting dasha lord), and how your nakshatra's energy interacts with your Chinese BaZi Day Master — the two-civilization synthesis that's unique to TaraQi.
